Competency-based Training


At MPower, we have utilized the wide experience of our team, to introduce competency-based training to the people and organizations of Sri Lanka. The core of our training approach revolves around the development of competencies that will enable the trainees to transfer the knowledge, understanding and skills they develop during the training sessions, to real-life settings. In other words, we support people and organizations in getting empowered to fulfill their dreams of growth and development.

Collaboration with Education Development Foundation (EDF), UK


MPower has tied up with UK’S Education Development Foundation (EDF) to bring to its Sri Lankan clients a series of Certification Programmes within the sphere of Soft Skills. The Programmes have been developed by International Education and Training experts who have the experience of working with learners and organizations from different parts of the world. The Training Programmes, while adhering to international standards and quality benchmarks, take into consideration of the local requirements of the Sri Lankan clients.

The EDF Certification Qualifications have been developed at different Levels as per the guidelines of the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) of England, Northern Ireland and Wales.

Level 4

At Level 4, the Programmes address the requirements of adult learners who have completed their Higher Secondary Education / Tertiary Education. Upon the successful completion of a Level 4 Training Programme, learners will be able to carry out ‘well-defined but complex and non-routine’ tasks and activities in relation to the training content by ‘exercising autonomy and judgement within fairly broad parameters’. The EDF Level 4 Qualifications offered by MPower in Sri Lanka are as follows:

  • Level 4 Award in Effective Presentation Skills
  • Level 4 Award in Effective Written Communication Skills
  • Level 4 Award in Effective Interpersonal Communication Skills
    Upon the successful completion of the above three Qualifications, learners can apply to obtain a ‘Level 4 Certificate in Effective Communication Skills’ by paying an additional fee.
  • Level 4 Award in Leading in the 21st Century
  • Level 4 Award in Relationship Building
  • Level 4 Award in Conflict Handling and Negotiating
    Upon the successful completion of the above three Qualifications, learners can apply to obtain a ‘Level 4 Certificate in Effective Leadership Skills’ by paying an additional fee.
  • Level 4 Award in Life-long Learning for the 21st Century
  • Level 4 Award in Effectively Managing Time
  • Level 4 Award in Developing Customer Focus
    Upon the successful completion of the above three Qualifications, learners can apply to obtain a ‘Level 4 Certificate in Personal Development Skills’ by paying an additional fee.

Level 3

At Level 3, the Programmes address the needs of learners who have completed their Secondary School Education (Sri Lanka GCE O/L). It is expected of potential learners who are interested in pursuing an EDF Level 3 Qualification to have adequate English Language proficiency (at least a ‘C’ Pass for the subject of English Language at Sri Lanka GCE O/L). Upon the successful completion of a Level 3 Training Programme, learners will be able to carry out ‘well-defined’ tasks and activities that ‘have a measure of complexity’ in relation to the training content by ‘exercising autonomy and judgement within limited parameters’. The EDF Level 3 Qualifications offered by MPower in Sri Lanka are as follows:

  • Level 3 Award in Effective Presentation Skills
  • Level 3 Award in Effective Written Communication Skills
  • Level 3 Award in Effective Interpersonal Communication Skills
    Upon the successful completion of the above three Qualifications, learners can apply to obtain a ‘Level 3 Certificate in Effective Communication Skills’ by paying an additional fee.
  • Level 3 Award in Leading in the 21st Century
  • Level 3 Award in Relationship Building
  • Level 3 Award in Conflict Handling and Negotiating

Level 2

At Level 2, the Programmes address the needs of learners who have completed their Secondary School Education (Sri Lanka GCE O/L). EDF Level 2 Qualifications have been developed specifically for learners who work within Tourism, Retail and Healthcare sectors at junior level. Upon the successful completion of a Level 2 Training Programme, learners will be able to carry out ‘well-defined’ tasks and resolve ‘straightforward’ problems in relation to the training content by ‘taking responsibility’ and ‘exercising autonomy and judgement subject to overall direction or guidance’. The EDF Level 2 Qualifications offered by MPower in Sri Lanka are as follows:

  • Level 2 Award in Essential Communication Skills for the Healthcare Sector
  • Level 2 Award in Essential Communication Skills for the Retail Sector
  • Level 2 Award in Essential Communication Skills for the Tourism Sector

Level 1

At Level 1, the Programmes address the needs of learners who have basic education and are in need of enhancing their employability skills. Upon the successful completion of a Level 1 Training Programme, learners will be able to carry out ‘routine tasks’ by using the knowledge and skills gained in relation to the training content. The EDF Level 2 Qualifications offered by MPower in Sri Lanka are as follows:

  • Level 1 Award in Essential Communication Skills
  • Level 1 Award in Effective Teamwork

MPower’s Delivery Model

The delivery model developed by MPower is such that each Certification Programme will be conducted as a short Training Programme involving about 16 hours of face-to-face contact. One of the highlights of our panel of professional trainers is that they have both local and international experience and therefore are able to bring international quality Training with the necessary local flavor. Our Training sessions encompass active learning approaches:

  • Videos

We also ensure that contemporary theories and paradigms are covered with relevant examples from the practical world.
